We’re the employees you would hire if you could. Responsive, helpful, and dedicated in ways automation simply can’t be. We’re your team.

Each month we recognize one of our Most Helpful Humans in Hosting.

Meet Luke Cavanagh

Luke Cavanagh, our amazing WooCommerce Specialist on the Managed WooCommerce Hosting Team, helps our customers daily with supporting their online stores to succeed. In today’s fast-paced eCommerce world, it’s essential that stores run lightning-quick and are online 24/7/365. Luke, who has worked with WordPress since 2012 and WooCommerce since 2014, makes sure that happens.

We sat down with Luke to find out why he chose Liquid Web for his career, especially considering the plethora of online store options available today to make a career in.

Luke Cavanagh, a Helpful Human at Liquid Web

Why did you join Liquid Web?

I joined Liquid Web to support their growing WooCommerce customer base. With WooCommerce being the most customizable eCommerce platform on the planet, with more integrations, customization, and support than anyone else, I knew it would be a great fit.

WooCommerce is as varied as WordPress is with the number of plugins available for use, as well as the ways in which WooCommerce can be used and extended. The nearly limitless possibilities for integrations and configurations are what make working with this product such fun.

Is there something specific at Liquid Web that you just love?

Liquid Web provides some of the best support in the industry. I remember how impressed I was by how awesome Liquid Web support was when I needed support back in 2016 as a customer. This was when I was working for a web development company in Salt Lake City and needed an issue resolved with a client’s site. Liquid Web was very knowledgeable about potential solutions and eager to help our team. That’s hard to find in the hosting industry and absolutely helped to save the day in our situation.

Most hosts will help with basic level support issues, but when larger issues arise, especially with compatibility or integrations with applications or plugins, they will tell the customer to contact a developer. At Liquid Web, we exhaust all avenues for all customers for all issues; it’s called “Beyond Scope Support.”

I also love helping solve support issues before they even begin by writing support articles for our Knowledge Base on WooCommerce.

In your eyes, what’s the difference between Liquid Web and other employers?

Liquid Web gets what being an amazing company is all about. It treats customers and employees very well and empowers employees to make a difference in all they do. Liquid Web always goes above and beyond, every time.

What is the biggest milestone you’ve accomplished?

It’s been amazing to step outside of my comfort zone to learn new things and ways of being able to achieve more with my knowledge. I have dealt with WordPress since 2012 and WooCommerce since 2014, but dealing with a wide variety of many different customer stores and their unique needs has been both challenging and amazing. I can definitely provide far better support with more knowledge now due to my experiences at Liquid Web than ever before.

Tell us about the most positive experience you have had at Liquid Web.

I have been working with the product team for over two years. As part of that team, I have been able to help support Managed WooCommerce, our flagship eCommerce platform offering, and that has been awesome. The product team is an amazing group of individuals. Everyone on the team helps everyone else out and everyone has your back. Can’t beat that.

What is one thing you wish our customers knew about their hosting?

Having a development and staging site allows you to test site changes, new plugins, or plugin updates in a safe environment before making any of those changes to your live site. That is absolutely essential to keeping your site online and running optimally during site additions and changes.

What is your favorite TV show?

Doctor Who. I first started watching the Doctor Who series that ran in the late 70’s and early 80s. The first Doctor I remember was Tom Baker (the fourth doctor) and really enjoyed watching that show. Even with the long break after the late 80s, it came back strong in the late 2000s. I love when a show has staying power like that.

What is your favorite app?

Google Play Music, because with a YouTube Premium subscription, you have access to anything you want to listen to plus you can download content offline.

If you could have dinner with one famous person [dead or alive] who would it be?

I would love to have dinner with Jim Henson, since he was an interesting and complex man who created so many original shows and movies like the Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock, and the Storyteller. When I was at College in the UK, I applied for work experience at the Jim Henson Creature Shop in London, but sadly didn’t get in. That would have been something else.

You can follow Luke on LinkedIn and GitHub.
We hope you enjoyed our series, and stay tuned for the next Most Helpful Human in Hosting profile.
